Fly-Tipping

Recently fly-tipping has become an issue in the area with the illegal dumping of some waste items in scrubs adjacent to Cherryvalley on private land at Kings Manor.

Some volunteers kindly agreed to give up a Saturday morning to help clear the waste however they found that the problem was much deeper than first anticipated and had to stop. RACKS have engaged with local councillor Ross Brown who has since taken the issue up with Belfast City Council. Interestingly it appears that Belfast City Council may not have the authority to collect fly-tipping from private land however it appears that Ross has been given an assurance by BCC that they will clear the waste on this occasion. Thanks Ross.

Advice to residents on fly-tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. Dumping waste illegally is a serious criminal offence that can carry a very large fine.

Your local council provides waste disposal sites and recycling centres where you can safely recycle and dispose of unwanted items.
